Being the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly, SPECPOL addresses issues such as decolonization, peacekeeping, and global political challenges.
As the commercialization of outer space accelerates, the need for a clear and comprehensive regulatory framework has never been more urgent. The agenda item, Regulation of Commercial Activities in Outer Space, examines how governments can collaborate to establish international standards that ensure the peaceful, equitable, and sustainable use of outer space. This includes addressing issues such as satellite congestion, space debris, resource exploitation, and the monopolization of orbital zones by private actors.
By addressing this issue, this committee aims to develop innovative policies that foster transparency, international cooperation, and long-term sustainability in outer space activities.
